Dr. Alan Szagesh Chiropractor Grand Rapids MI
Hi again. I would like to tell you my story of how I became Dr. Alan Szagesh Chiropractor Grand Rapids MI.
When I was 8 years old, my father had severe pain that shot down his arm. I remember him sitting at the kitchen table clutching his right arm and I asked him “Dad, why don’t you take your pain pills?”. He replied by saying “They ruin your kidneys”. I didn’t know what to say but later I realized, he was right. That statement got me thinking, and mind you, this was the late 70’s before the internet. I wondered why you never heard anything bad about a drug until there was another one to replace it.
Shortly after that day at the kitchen table, I watched my Dad get his first adjustment, then another, and slowly he got better. I was amazed at the Chiropractor’s skill, how he could “find” those problem spots, just blew me away. I decided that I wanted to become a Chiropractor.
As I got older, around 12 years old, I started to develop reoccurring sinus infections and allergies. The infections got worse the older I got. I also began to occasionally see my Dad’s Chiropractor, still, I suffered with them and took several antibiotics every year. Eventually, at age 22, I considered sinus surgery while I still had my parents insurance. Luckily for me, I opted to move from Michigan to a warmer climate, Tampa Bay and met a different Chiropractor, Dr. Conrad Cowerd.

And, Dr. Cowerd taught me a lot about Chiropractic, showed me that my neck was messed up and I was not getting adjusted enough to actually fix the problem. I decided to give it a shot and since February 1993, I have only taken 3 rounds of antibiotics and about 18 over-the-counter painkillers (the last 9 Advil was because I broke a tooth). Amazing for just over 20 years later.
I have to say, I am not special here. Chiropractic care has had similar results with thousands of people. As a matter of fact, there was a survey done on the health of children of Pediatricians and children of Chiropractors. The results are astonishing. 12% of the Pediatrician’s children never had an antibiotic whereas almost 50% of the Chiropractor’s children never had an antibiotic. My daughter Adina, at 11 years old, have only had one antibiotic. I would like to clarify – that this does not imply that we do not “believe” in antibiotics. However, as Chiropractors, we simply believe in a time and place for proper medical care. Our kids tend to fight off colds and flu better because they have healthy nervous systems.

And, while continued regular Chiropractic care for Wellness and Prevention, I applied and got accepted to Life University’s Chiropractic Program. In July of 1994, I began. After three intense years later, I walked out as Dr. Szagesh. Now, I am a practicing Chiropractor in Grand Rapids, MI with over a quarter of a million adjustments performed. I have never refused to treat a patient based on their insurance. I accept all of them. Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Priority Health, Cigna, to name a few. How can I help you today?
