Dr. Szagesh-Grand Rapids CBP Chiropractor
Hi again. I would like to tell you my story of how I became Dr. Alan Szagesh Chiropractor CBP Grand Rapids MI.
When I was 8 years old, my father had severe pain that shot down his arm. I remember him sitting at the kitchen table clutching his right arm and I asked him “Dad, why don’t you take your pain pills?”. He replied by saying “They ruin your kidneys”. I didn’t know what to say but later I realized, he was right. That statement got me thinking, and mind you, this was the late 70’s before the internet. I wondered why you never heard anything bad about a drug until there was another one to replace it.
Shortly after that day at the kitchen table, I watched my Dad get his first adjustment, then another, and slowly he got better. I was amazed at the Chiropractor’s skill, how he could “find” those problem spots, just blew me away. I decided that I wanted to become a Chiropractor.
As I got older, around 12 years old, I started to develop reoccurring sinus infections and allergies. The infections got worse the older I got. I also began to occasionally see my Dad’s Chiropractor, still, I suffered with them and took several antibiotics every year. Eventually, at age 22, I considered sinus surgery while I still had my parents insurance. Luckily for me, I opted to move from Michigan to a warmer climate, Tampa Bay and met a different Chiropractor, Dr. Conrad Cowerd.

And, Dr. Cowerd taught me a lot about Chiropractic, showed me that my neck was messed up and I was not getting adjusted enough to actually fix the problem. I decided to give it a shot and since February 1993, I have only taken 3 rounds of antibiotics and about 18 over-the-counter painkillers (the last 9 Advil was because I broke a tooth). Amazing for just over 20 years later.
I have to say, I am not special here. Chiropractic care has had similar results with thousands of people. As a matter of fact, there was a survey done on the health of children of Pediatricians and children of Chiropractors. The results are astonishing. 12% of the Pediatrician’s children never had an antibiotic whereas almost 50% of the Chiropractor’s children never had an antibiotic. My daughter Adina, at 11 years old, have only had one antibiotic. I would like to clarify – that this does not imply that we do not “believe” in antibiotics. However, as Chiropractors, we simply believe in a time and place for proper medical care. Our kids tend to fight off colds and flu better because they have healthy nervous systems.

And, while continued regular Chiropractic care for Wellness and Prevention, I applied and got accepted to Life University’s Chiropractic Program. In July of 1994, I began. After three intense years later, I walked out as Dr. Szagesh. Now, I am a practicing Chiropractor in Grand Rapids, MI with over a quarter of a million adjustments performed. I have never refused to treat a patient based on their insurance. I accept all of them. Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Priority Health, Cigna, to name a few. How can I help you today?
Christie – Office Manager
Hi, my name is Christie, Health 1st Chiropractor Manager in Grand Rapids MI. I’m thrilled to work here at Health First Chiropractic. My responsibilities is to ensure our office runs smoothly, billing, x-ray analysis, yes, we do that here, and general duties. I take great pride in the Chiropractic lifestyle and offer it to myself and children to keep them healthy and recommend other parents consider it as well. Chiropractic has changed over the years and really has many benefits. I am proud to say I work at a place that is changing lives daily.
I graduated from Ross Medical School in 2012 with my Medical Assistant Certificate. Most of my Chiropractic training has been on the job, which has been a few years now and countless hours. And, I will be working as the Chiropractic Manager to help all our Chiropractic patients. I’m excited to be at Health 1st because I believe in Chiropractic. Not only do I get adjusted, but my two sons, Kayden and Kye do too! Kye’s first Chiropractic adjustment was when he was just six days old.
Another amazing portion of my postilion as Chiropractic Manager is that I prepare the x-rays for analysis. We are one the few offices in the state of Michigan to offer this sort of intense x-ray analysis. We can actually measure how much you are off and how much changes has occurred to get your spine in optimal condition. This is very important, as the improvement is not only felt but it is measured. Insurance companies cannot state that there is or is not improvement as we base this information on fact, not feelings. Yes, you are most definitely going to feel better, but “feelings” are not measurable.
When I am not in the office, you can find me spending time with my sons, and baby. Watching the Lions, or taking my dog, Eastwood, for a walk! I look forward to getting to know all our patients at Health First Chiropractic!
Arzu – Receptionist/Chiropractic Assistant
Hello my name is Arzu, I am the Chiropractic Assistant here at Health First Chiropractic. I am thrilled to work here and help improve our patient’s health. When I am not working, I am at home playing with my 3 year old son, Emilio. We are either outside playing with our 2 dogs or inside watching movies. He loves the Minions movie.
I have been a patient of Dr. Szagesh since I was 11. I started getting my son adjusted when he was just 2 weeks old and he still comes in almost once a week to get adjusted! I’m looking forward to getting to know all our Health First Patients.
Elli – Therapist
Hi. My name is Elli. I’m very excited to be a part of the team at Health First Chiropractic and look forward to working with you. I attended the Blue Heron Academy and was certified in Medical Massage Therapy in 2007, and state licensed in 2014. I have taken continuing education credits in sports, geriatric, and prenatal massage. I began my career in a spa setting where I became familiar with relaxation massage techniques such as Swedish and hot stone. For the past six years I have worked with several chiropractors in the Grand Rapids area. Whether you are suffering from chronic pain, acute pain due to injury, or just looking to feel better overall, I have seen that a combination of chiropractic care and massage therapy can drastically improve your health and quality of life.
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family. I have three children Alux, Caleb, and Brooke. We love being outside camping, fishing, and swimming. We travel to the Keweenaw Peninsula as often as possible to visit my sister and six nieces and nephews.
Sarah – Therapist
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am pleased to join the Health First Chiropractic team as a Licensed Massage Therapist. I went to a massage therapy school in Arizona, Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, at which I completed a 1000-hr program. I have 4+ years in the field since I graduated in 2011, working at chiropractic offices and spa settings. I am passionate about my work and excited to share what I know for the benefit of patients. I have extensive training in Myotherapy, Deep tissue, Trigger point, and Cranial Sacral Unwinding. I support and am enthused by the results I’ve seen doing massage therapy in chiropractic offices.
Outside of work I try to keep myself pretty active. Whether I’m playing volleyball or dropping in on a yoga class or just playing outside with friends, I try to break a sweat each day. That being said, no matter how busy I am, I make time for some meditation as well as some epsom salt baths to relax.
