“The only thing Chiropractic is going to do is allow your body to function the way it should”–Dr. Szagesh
I put that quote up there because I think it was one of the wisest things I have said about Chiropractic.
We as Chiropractors did a great job educating the public on Chiropractic as a back pain, neck pain, headaches relief therapy. Myself included. Why? Because Chiropractic back in the 1960’s needed inclusion in the US Medicare system and at the time the only research studies that Medicare would accept was pain relief studies. From there, we became “back doctors”.
What most people don’t realize is that the spine is the gateway from the brain to the rest of your body. So I feel that it is kind of important to keep a healthy spine. Much like we keep healthy teeth. Actually Chiropractic is very similar to Dentistry as we are a hygiene discipline as well. Also like Dentistry, if you don’t take care of your teeth, they will rot and fall out. If you don’t take care of your spine, it too will degenerate faster and cause a poor quality of life. Ask anyone you know who is 65 or older, especially if they never been to a Chiropractor, what life is like. For some it’s good, for at least 30% it’s bad.
So what is Chiropractic? Chiropractic is the way of maintaining a healthy spine. We don’t work on cavities, we work on an entity called a Vertebral Subluxation, or Subluxation for short. By definition a Vertebral Subluxation is a misaligned spinal bone that in turn affects the nervous system. Chiropractic works at restoring the alignment such that the body will function better. Will that mean you will get out of Pain? In time you should, because a properly functioning body will do everything it can to heal and achieve what in known as homeostasis or balance.
Healthy people don’t suffer with pain, healthy people don’t have everyday headaches, and healthy people are not told to “live with it”.
